The Unicorns Podcast connects you to some of the best and brightest founders, CEOs, executives, business owners, VCs and inspiring leaders who make things happen and inspire others.
Hosted by media and PR veteran Justin Kelly, we chat to leaders on the front line on how to get started, what it takes to build a successful business, how to overcome challenges, and advice for those on a similar journey.
In this episode, Justin speaks with co-founder of Slingshot, Craig Lambert.
Craig left his career at Yahoo to begin a career in sport and also invest in tech companies.
After five years, he began to again crave change and during a discussion about “what’s next”, Craig was introduced to Trent Bagnall by a mutual friend during a round of golf.
Trent had recently sold a technology company that he’d spent 15 years building and was also looking for a new opportunity.
After meeting and realising they shared a similar vision to contribute to the startup space, Trent and Craig went to Silicon Valley to explore options.
It was there that they uncovered the true benefit of the accelerator model and the success seen by businesses who had spun out of accelerator programs. That’s when Slingshot was born.
Seven years on and Slingshot has worked with a string of prestigious Australian corporates and mentored hundreds of startup businesses.
In this episode, Lambert discusses why startup success often lies with finding the right founder. He talks through the hurdles and roadblocks often associated with driving innovation, why it’s crucial for C-Suite alignment to ensure innovation success and he looks ahead to map out the next big things in Australian ingenuity.
